This piece is a casting and sculpture with found objects from Dead Horse Bay, a polluted beach in New York City. "Beach Day" aims to reflect the serious issue of pollution in today's oceans and beaches. The sculpture is of a child from the future at the beach but reminiscent of the “preserved” bodies in ancient city of Pompeii. The body itself begins to become the pollution and decay . The casting of the feet were purposely made to look like they have also begun to erode. In short, "Beach Day" is a post apocalyptic day at the beach. Below are two photographs that represent my process through out this study. The first photograph, is an on site documentation of Dead Horse Bay, and the second is a selection from a series of still life photographs I created from my findings at the beach. The final product of this study was the sculpture shown above.
