THE ATTACK. STOP MOTION ANIMATION. OIL PASTELS ON PHOTOGRAPHS 10/18

The Attack is a stop motion animation that takes the form of an odalisque come to life. The female form starts off prone, eating an apple representative of sin. She is then approached by her “attacker” who is undefined visually but whose presence is clear as she throws her apple in the viewers direction. The undefined visual aspect of the attacker represents the voyeuristic male gaze as a whole, and expresses the male dominance of odalisque paintings seen throughout the world. Here the female is given the agency, as she has movement and the means to defend herself. She throws her apple to express the sin is within the viewer not within herself. There is no shame to the female figure and the female entity should not only be seen as sexual but as a powerful and dominant force. She then opens the window, as the “light” enters through, representing a matriarchy that has come to protect her. In the end she finishes the scene by eating a banana, a clearly phallic subject, to finally express the demise of her “attacker”.
